$1.69m in cash, which is allegedly the property of the two adult sons of former Panamanian president Ricardo Martinelli, plus millions of dollars in real estate, has reportedly been seized in New York. Luis Enrique Martinelli and Ricardo Alberto Martinelli have lost their appeals of extradition orders in Guatemala, and are facing removal to the United States, where they have been indicted for money laundering and bribery charges, in connection with a $28m corruption case involving the construction giant, Odebrecht.
The last act necessary for the Martinellis to be extradited is the final action of the Guatemalan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is expected to occur shortly.
