The temporary leader of the British Virgin Islands has very publicly noted that a purported official communication, sent to the United States from the BVI, is bogus and that the matter is under investigation by the Governor's office. The Acting Premier of the British Virgin Islands, in a rare urgent video announcement, advised the public that the letter, written on letterhead stationary of the Premier's Office, and requesting that diplomatic immunity from criminal prosecution be granted him, was unauthorized, and prepared and sent without the knowledge or consent of the Government of the BVI, specifically neither the Acting Premier, or the Permanent Secretary.
No competent attorney, familiar with the Vienna Treaty of Diplomatic Relations, which has been adopted by all the Members of the United Nations, would in good faith advise his clients to assert diplomatic immunity, or Head of State immunity, under this set of facts. It should therefore be considered that the bogus letter was a desperate move by individuals who were co-conspirators with Fahie, in his cocaine facilitation scheme, who fear exposure if he cooperates with US law enforcement.
Acting Premier Natalio Wheatley cast blame on whom he referred to as an unidentified "rogue public official" for the illicit act, details of which he advised have been transmitted to the Deputy Governor for further investigation. Fahie's associates obviously hatched a plot to demand diplomatic immunity for him, although such status has no basis in either international law, nor customary diplomatic procedures, to protect themselves.
