Andrew Fahie, the arrested & cashiered former Premier of the British Virgin Islands, is apparently so desperate to get out of jail that he had his attorney file a motion to dismiss the Government's appeal of the bond conditions set down by the US Magistrate. Alleging governmental delay, Fahie's counsel is seeking to have there appeal dismissed, or the automatic hold on his bond cancelled, an extraordinary act rarely, if ever, seen in US District Court in Miami. This gives us some idea about how absolutely desperate Fahie is to be released.
His attorney, citing the statutory principle that the availability of bond is required to be prompt, to be fair to the defendant, is requesting relief for her client. The US Attorney's Office, in a reply, has asserted that Fahie's request has no basis in law. As soon as there is a ruling on the motion, we shall promptly update our readers on the status.
Fahie's arrest continues to create shock waves throughout government circles in the East Caribbean states, particularly the recurring rumours that he is now disclosing details of criminal conduct of other Caribbean leaders, in an effort to ultimately receive a reduced sentence for his alleged crimes of money laundering and narcotics trafficking conspiracy.
