If you were one of those people who are uncomfortable with Hezbollah and the Iran Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) setting up "cultural centers" in Latin America, you were right to be concerned. Hezbollah has now registered, as a political party, in Peru. Apparently the fact that the Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization is a sanctioned entity in much of the Western world doesn't seem to matter to Peruvian officials. Is this some sort of anti-American statement, for it could really backfire, and permanently soil Peruvian-American relations.
How this affects Country Risk for Peru is difficult to judge at this time, but inasmuch as a political party in Latin America typically purchases goods and services from businesses in the United States, there may be a problem down the road, for American companies that trade with Peru.
