LAWYER IN BARBADOS TELLS VICTIMS SHE'S GOING TO DO THE PRISON TIME AND KEEP THE MONEY SHE STOLE

Vonda Pile in police custody.

We present Barbados attorney VONDA PILE as our next example of how morally corrupt the attorneys in Barbados have become. She was holding in escrow a six-figure deposit and purchase money for a client from abroad, who when he came to Barbados and saw the property, decided not to proceed with the transaction. He had not closed on the sale but backed out timely.

Notwithstanding repeated demands, she only returned a small portion of the funds, and he brought criminal charges. A panel of jurors convicted her of theft, and her appeals were denied. There is a question as to whether her lawyers brought the appeals in bad faith, as the evidence at trial was reportedly more than sufficient to sustain a conviction. In fact the Caribbean Court of Justice held that no miscarriage of justice had occurred, meaning that they questioned why the appeal was even brought. That's a nice way of saying that she, and her attorneys, wasted the Court's time.

We note that, when Ms. Pile had an opportunity to escape the three-year prison sentence, by repaying  Anstey King, she reportedly replied that she would rather serve the sentence than repay the victim, her former client. She had decided to keep the money. That is the level to which Bajan lawyers have sunk, and we wonder how many lawyers have stolen from their trusting clients, and seceded their booty abroad, intending to keep it out of the hands of the victims, who are the true owners, so that they can enjoy the fruits of their crimes later. The word for today is Moral Bankruptcy.
