INDICTED BVI PREMIER ANDREW FAHIE ASKS FOR A DELAY IN HIS MONEY LAUNDERING TRIAL

As expected, former BVI Premier ANDREW FAHIE has requested that his July 18, 2022 trial date, in his US money laundering and narcotics trafficking case be postponed. His attorney stated that she has not received all the Government's Discovery in the case to date, and the amount of materials she has received cannot be adequately reviewed prior to trial. She has requested January 2023 for a new trial date. Given that Fahie has been released to House Arrest in Miami, but his two co-defendants remain in custody, there may be issues regarding a date so far in the future.

The Court has not yet ruled on the defendant's request, but most such motions are routinely granted. Rumours of his cooperation, and his reported naming of other East Caribbean government officials in narcotics trafficking activities continue to circulate in the capital cities of the region.
