ALEX SAAB'S EVIDENTIARY HEARING ON HIS DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY MOTION MAY BE POSTPONED DUE TO DISCOVERY ISSUES

The Government and the attorney for defendant Alex Saab Moran have filed a joint motion, detailing that there may be additional Discovery due to the defendant's counsel, and have advised the Court that the Evidentiary Hearing on their client's claim of diplomatic immunity, scheduled for August 29, may have to be rescheduled.

Apparently the defence wants all possible Brady material, which is evidence favorable to the defendant, regarding innocence or for sentencing, disclosed, including that in the possession of the Central Intelligence Agency. At the previously scheduled July 15 Status Conference, issues regarding the protection of classified material are to be handled, amongst other pretrial issues.

It might be appropriate to remind readers that Saab has assembled a "Dream Team" of qualified lawyers, whose appearances are strictly limited to the diplomatic immunity issue. Since an adverse ruling on that issue will certainly be appealed to the Eleventh Circuit, expect this case to drag on for an extended period of time, in to 2023. No new information has surfaced about any plea negotiations, although insiders swear that he has already quietly made a plea deal, and rendered Substantial Assistance, involving prominent Venezuelan nationals, that he laundered illicit millions of dollars for. in the tax havens of the East Caribbean, especially Antigua and Dominica, in the Republic of Panama, and through Malta.
