One of the principal companies that perform Due Diligence investigations to Caribbean CIUs are reportedly heavily involved in bribing either the heads of citizenship units or their employees to secure the maximum number of due diligence service contracts. According to a reliable source, St. Kitts and Nevis is allegedly giving all its CBI applications to a specific company, in exchange for substantial bribes from the company. These are serious allegations, and we shall investigate them, to obtain absolute confirmation, before we name & shame the company, but the fact that payments violating the UK Bribery Act and/or the Foreign Corrupt Practises Act (FCPA) have allegedly occurred requires diligent inquiry, forthwith.
SLC Minister Ernest Hilaire |
If you are a regular reader of our CBI/CIP coverage, you will recall that bribery of government officials in Saint Lucia, to obtain the Due Diligence contracts for that state's CIP applications, including the illicit role of Minister of Investment ERNEST HILAIRE, who allegedly received corrupt payments from a foreign company, to direct all investigations to it, has been the subject of a number of articles in recent months. Notwithstanding widespread calls for his resignation and the filing of criminal charges against him, Hilaire continues to decline to answer questions from local media, regarding the CIP program, and whether he has taken bribes and kickbacks in a scandal strikingly similar to these recent allegations in Saint Kitts & Nevis.
