Nigerian nationals, coming from a jurisdiction where it has been extremely hard for them to obtain a visa to enter the United States, whether for tourism, study or business have been relying on Citizenship by Investment (CIP) passport acquired through the program offered by Antigua and Barbuda. They have then taken their Antiguan passport to an American Consulate abroad, and secured what they needed to come to America. This loophole was widely exploited by Nigerians, as well as others abroad, in the Middle East, Asia and other countries in Africa.
As anyone familiar with recent developments in the Caribbean knows, on December 16, 2025, The United States announced that severe restrictions were being imposed upon citizens of Antigua and Dominica, due to their dysfunctional and corrupt economic passport programs, effective January 1 of 2026.
Unfortunately, this little detail, as important as it is, has been omitted or twisted by CBI consultants selling Antigua citizenships in Nigeria since January. They have resorted to advising prospective Antigua passport purchasers that the restrictive American visa program will soon be terminated, relying upon the misstatements of material fact made publicly by Antigua's Prime Minister GASTON BROWNE, who alleges that visas will again be available this summer, although this is a bald lie. The CIP agents are completely deceiving their Nigerian consumers, using Browne's misleading statements as established fact.
The total lack of control that Antigua's CIU, the agency that handles CIP applications, exercises, under the direct authority of Browne, who also has the portfolio of Minister of Finance, means that the deception will continue ad infinitum, and consumers will continue to be misled, by dishonest consultants, supported by a Prime Minister more interested in passport sales than the truth.
