People who are just this week learning about the unfolding scandal involving Malta's former Prime Minister, JOSEPH MUSCAT, and the fact that he has a residence in Dubai, UAE, allegedly purchased for him by a hospital conglomerate, are reminded that we exposed details about the property three years ago. Our article, Malta's Disgraced ex-Prime Minister Moving to an Exclusive (and Expensive) Residence in Dubai in 2021, published on December 2, 2020. Our articles from that period explained Muscat's long-term efforts to move his operation to Dubai, where he would presumably be safe from extradition to the United States and the United Kingdom.
We remind our non-American readers that the payment of any sum to a foreign leader or official, where the aim is to establish or retain a business relationship, is a violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. According to our sources, there is a major American FCPA criminal investigation in progress involving Joseph Muscat, including but not limited to, the Malta hospitals scandal. The scandal has reverberated throughout Malta's business and professional community, and calls for the Attorney General to indict the guilty parties have increased in the last thirty days. Public outrage has reached a level not seen in Malta for years, and pressure upon the country's notoriously corrupt law enforcement agencies, to take action, is at an extremely high level.
We are actively seeking additional information about the circumstances surrounding the purchase of Muscat's Dubai property, and shall update our readers of all developments as they occur.
