If you were wondering why 99% of the bulk cash seizures made by that money-sniffing dog at Malta's International Airport are from travelers bound for Istanbul, here's your answer. The cash was cryptocurrency, converted to Euros, representing criminal proceeds from illegal gaming laundered through a Maltese crypto exchange.
A major criminal case in Turkey exposed this week reported $30m seized by Turkish authorities in a case involving an illegal gambling ring. Readers may recall that Joseph Muscat and his gang of Merry (corrupt) Men has great plans to turn Malta into Blockchain Island; instead, they created Fantasy Island for laundrymen with their facilitation of cryptocurrency exchanges.
How did this happen, you ask? A confidential source has advised us that Joseph Muscat was allegedly given a villa in the exclusive Santa Maria Estate section; it was bought with Bitcoin, allegedly as payment for liberalising the crypto market on Malta. That information was apparently widely known.
Don't look for any arrests in Malta, as the PL Merry Men have reportedly let it be known that nobody in law enforcement is to disturb their lucrative crypto laundering cash cow. The players, who are close associates of JM, are from what we call the Maltese Mafia Wing of the Party; they funnel a portion of the profits upstairs, and reap impunity due to their"profit sharing" arrangement. Don't look for it to be dismantled anytime soon.
