AMERICA FINDS A SOLUTION TO RUSSIANS USING MALTA'S CORRUPT CITIZENSHIP BY INVESTMENT PROGRAMME

Malta's citizens will soon need A US visa

The Maltese press is abuzz with the latest proposed American legislation, designed to insure that Citizenship by Investment (IIM) passport sales programmes will soon be a thing of the past in the Republic of Malta. The concept, simple as it is, will most likely result in Maltese voters demand that the IIM passport programme be terminated, forthwith, as the new American law will impact each of directly.

Introduced by two members of the United States Congress, on Democrat and one Republican, which means bipartisan support, thus insuring passage, it is entitled the No Travel for Traffickers Act. It disqualifies any country with CBI passports from eligibility in America's Visa Waiver Programme. Though designed to keep Russian nationals involved in organized crime, and/or supporting President Putin, look at the effect upon Malta. We call it the Law of Unintended Consequences.; fallout from the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This means that all the citizens of Malta, due to its passport sales programme, will not longer  be able to visit the United States through that convenient method. They will now ALL have to secure a visa at the American Embassy in Malta; how many will actually qualify we cannot say, but you know Embassy visa issuance  is often tedious and time-consuming, even when they are finally granted.

Think of the impact on Maltese businessmen who need to enter the US or Maltese who want to visit the US for tourism purposes, or to check out a local university or job offer. If this new American law doesn't result in Malta's voters besieging their government to cancel the IIM programme, we will be very surprised. It has already shocked local media, but they have totally missed the point. It is designed to kill Citizenship by Investment programmes; expect it to be effective.

Remember that the European Commission is already in litigation with Malta, seeking to cancel the IIM programme. This new American law restricting countries with CBI should place the final nail in the IIM coffin.
