WHEN POLITICIANS START INTERFERING WITH FINCEN'S COUNTER TERRORISM MISSION, WE ALL LOSE



If you monitor events coming out of the United States Congress that impact AML/CFT, you probably saw that a Congressional committee is demanding information from FinCEN about how the agency assembles, and transmits to US law enforcement, banking records about terrorists, extremists and potential mass casualty shooters, especially their firearms purchases, and suspicious travel patterns. One of FinCEN's most important missions is Counter-terrorism, and that of course includes suppressing Domestic Terrorism.

The purported grounds for the Congressional inquiry is whether such intelligence gathering activities interferes with the Second Amendment Right to bear arms. When it comes to terrorist activities in the United States, interfering with our government agencies' ability to identify, in advance, potential terrorist threats, before they come to fruition, trumps possible politically-based claims of 2nd Amendment issues, in my humble opinion. Counterterrorism must be a priority, and when political actors, seeking to anger their constituents for personal gain, mess with America's counterterrorism program, I find that unacceptable and disgusting. Leave your partisan politics at the door, when it comes to
