NOTE TO DOJ IN ALEX SAAB MORAN DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY APPEAL; JUSTICE DELAYED IS JUSTICE DENIED

ALEX SAAB MORAN, the Colombian money launderer facing a trial in US District Court in Miami, filed his appeal to the Eleventh Circuit in January, after the trial judge denied his attorneys' efforts to evade accountability for his laundering in Venezuela and elsewhere, by claiming he had diplomatic immunity. Having been extradited from the Cape Verde Islands, he has been held in pre-trial confinement since his arrival in the United States.

Opinion or Order Filing 39 ORDER: Motion for extension to file appellee brief filed by Appellee USA is GRANTED. [ # 38 ] Appellees brief due on 09/13/2023. ENTERED FOR THE COURT - BY DIRECTION. (See attached order for complete text) [Entered: 08/02/2023 09:38 AM]

A quick check of the 11th Circuit docket is disturbing. The United States Attorney has obtained not one, but two extensions from the Court, to file its Brief of Appellee. WTF, gentlemen! This case should go to trial as expeditiously as possible, and dragging your feet with the brief delays the trial unnecessarily, in my humble opinion. This is one of the principal money launderers in Latin America, and the appeal is without legal merit. Saab is not more a diplomat than I am. The brief, which is now scheduled to be filed on September 13, should have been completed months ago. Perhaps the Assistant US Attorneys handling appeals in SDFL might want to delay their 30-days summer vacations a bit, and file the darn thing.
