MALTA'S PRIME MINISTER ROBERT ABELA HAD BEEN THE LAWYER FOR THE FAMILY OF PILATUS BANK OFFICER WHO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL WOULD NOT PROSECUTE FOR MONEY LAUNDERING

Reports originating in Malta, made by investigative journalists, have exposed the fact that the country's Prime Minister, Robert Abela, had been the lawyer for the family of former Pilatus Bank senior officer ANTONIELLA GAUCI, multiple times in the past. Gauci, the former risk manager for the bank, whose charter was revoked by the EU for massive money laundering, was named in a magistrate's report ordered to be charged in Malta, but later whom the country's Attorney General ruled was not going to be the subject of any law enforcement action.

The information, that PM Abela had twice in the past acted as attorney for the Gauci family, had not previously been known, nor was it ever disclosed by Abela when he took office. According to the report, the Malta Police Financial Crimes Investigation Department were actually ordered to start from a conclusion that Gauci was not to be charged, and create a scenario whereby they could justify failing to charge her with any crimes. Those officers later resigned from their positions, and it is suspected that they received large bribes for their corrupt actions in the case.

Pilatus Bank functioned as a centre for money laundering,  especially involving large amounts of money from corrupt foreign leaders diverted from public finds which were cleaned and transferred to accounts elsewhere in Europe. None of the senior officers at the bank have ever been charged in Malta, notwithstanding the magisterial order, which has given the country a reputation as a jurisdiction that ignores the Rule of Law, when it comes to money laundering crimes.

Gauci was literally caught red-handed by photographers, removing that are now known to be incriminating documents from the bank, in the middle of the night, in the company of bank owner, the Iranian national ALI SADR HASHIME NEJAD, after information regarding rampant money laundering at the bank became public knowledge.

There are now calls for Prime Minister Abela to resign.
