Muscat looses control by COSIMO |
In Malta, the proposal of the country's ruling Labour Party to accept Ukrainian refugees from the Russian invasion is being seen by the Members of the European Union as a gimmick, a ploy to belatedly join the EU. As we know, the biggest supporter of Russian war criminals and Vladimir Putin in Europe has been Joseph Muscat and the PL, who have created a failed state in Malta where nothing works.
Now, the cabal in Castille that rules Malta, and tightly controls its politicians has opted to change its tactics. In essence, it is switching sides in midstream. The regime has apparently decided that the wise thing to do at the moment, is stop opposing the East and the United States, and get on board with the rest of Europe against Russia.
Obviously, Malta's leaders are in constant contact with their Russian Oligarch clients, and know that they are desperately seeking to protect the ill-gotten wealth that they maintain in the EU. There have been media reports that Oligarch mega-yachts are fleeing the ports where they have been based, such as Monaco, and we must assume that their accounts are being transferred to obscure jurisdictions abroad, far from European seizure and forfeiture.
Malta's PL has seen the handwriting on the wall; today Russian & Belarusian nationals have been blocked from the country's IIM Citizenship/residency by Investment programme. But is it to late for Joseph and Michelle Muscat to save themselves from the inevitable political and legal fallout ? Can the Maltese grassroots supporters of Labour be counted upon to keep them in power ? We doubt it. the Muscats will find themselves even more isolated fro the public.
The Ukraine situation, and the fallout it has generated regarding dirty Russian money, may be the straw that finally breaks Muscat's political back. Buckle you seat belts, Maltese people, as the roller coaster ride your country is has suffered due to PL is about to get nasty.
