Disgraced and Resigned: Richard Nixon |
Many observers of Malta's utterly corrupt politically scene, look at the disgraced American President, Richard Nixon, when looking for similar examples of national leaders who resigned in disgrace, as the result of their involvement in criminal activity whilst in office, and subsequent failed efforts to cover up their central role as the mentor of the illicit acts. They equate the defrocked PM, Joseph Muscat, with the sleazy American leader who was forced to resign the presidency, ahead of threatened impeachment proceedings.
Muscat's sins and transgressions, his connections to the only known assassination in the EU of a journalist by her own government, were far worse than Nixon's, but he is now attempting to do what Nixon failed at: making a political comeback. Nixon spent the remainder of his post-presidential life in isolation, and all his efforts to mainstream back into power were rebuffed, but Muscat appears to be bent on returning to public life, where his previous receipt of substantial bribes and kickbacks, on a grand scale, would have made Nixon jealous.
Daphne is watching |
Will he make a comeback? He is not a lawyer, therefore judgeships are out, The European Union won't have him, so other than a ministerial appointment, we wonder precisely where he will fit into the current Labour Government. Of course, if he is intent on replacing Robert Abela, and becoming Prime Minister once again, then all bets are off.
Can Muscat succeed in his evil quest? After all, Malta, which is a mix of Maltese Mafia influence and Middle Eastern corruption, pretending to be a democratic republic, will accept almost anything, if it results in cash being placed in the hands of voters. Only time will tell, unless, of course, the new right-wing government in Italy gets around to indicting him. That is a real possibility. Think Karma, dear readers.
"Something Wicked this way comes" |
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.
