For the first time since the modern German Navy was formed in the 1950s, it has fired a shot in anger. A German naval vessel repelled armed Houthi drones attacking it in the Red Sea recently. the warship is part of a new three-ship EU member task force sent to protect Europe-bound shipping.
The chaos in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea continues unabated, notwithstanding that the navies of several nations are shooting down Houthi missiles and drones, including undersea unmanned drones, which pose a new and feared weapon that can hit commercial shipping without warning. All this confusion, which drives up shipping costs, insurance prices, and crew salaries, due to increased risk, is like manna from heaven for Trade Based Money launderers. They are free to embed their criminal funds within legitimate charges, knowing that there is no rhyme or reason on what is normal or proper, and what is clearly excessive. It is truly a busman's holiday for laundrymen running TBML operations, with no gatekeepers who can determine, with accuracy, what's clean and what's money laundering through international trade payments.
