ANDREW FAHIE, the disgraced and indicted ex-Premier of the offshore financial center of British Virgin Islands, facing a June trial in Federal District Court in Miami for money laundering and narcotics trafficking has, through counsel, sought to relax his bond conditions. He is currently house arrest (home confinement) at his daughters' apartment in Miami, and he is seeking permission to visit his attorney's offices in Fort Lauderdale, ostensibly to work on his defense.
While every defendant is entitled to an adequate defense under the law, if is rumored, he is already cooperating with the authorities, so as to mitigate his potential ultimate sentence, why would he need to go to his lawyer's office to review the extensive Discovery produced in the case? It appears that the evidence against him is substantial, both testimony, incriminating documents, and voice and audio recordings, and to go to trial, though it is his right, could result in a lengthy sentence that could be avoided here. he was literally caught in the act.
More likely, he is chomping at the bit from his extended confinement to the apartment. While his daughters are online university students,we are sure that there is enough room there for his lawyer to discuss his case within the residence . It's infinitely better than the alternative, Pretrial Confinement, to be sure. Sounds like the ex-Premier just wants his freedom. he should count his blessings; things are likely to get ugly real soon for him.
