ANDREW FAHIE, writing from the American prison where he is being detained, in an open letter to his constituents, alleges that he was framed, and casts blame directly upon our colonial masters, meaning the United Kingdom with the help of the United States, to oust myself from office, embarrass the VIP Party, but most importantly, bring doubt and shame to the people of the Virgin Islands.
Fahie, who fails to explain the numerous video and audio tapes, as well as the testimony of the Cooperating Individual, all of which implicate him in drug trafficking and money laundering, appears to be alleging Entrapment, a defence that is clearly not available to him, under these facts. Do not be fool [sic] by this. The God of the Universe allows no weapon to prosper against the righteous, and I know that I will prevail.
The defendant goes on to state that he will not leave office, and claims, incorrectly, that he will be be released on bail, and return to his position as Premier. I will not submit my resignation to his Excellency the Governor, and upon my expected release under Bail conditions this Wednesday, I will resume my role as Premier of our beautiful land. This is incorrect, and wishful thinking, because bail is only available if a defendant has substantial ties to the Miami, Florida community (Fahie has none) and is not a Flight Risk. Neither of these requirements are going to be met on Wednesday, the hearing date. Even if he bail was granted, he would be prohibited from leaving the United States. His belief in bail is a pipedream. No criminal defence attorney in Miami should be assuring him of release, especially after the US Attorney's office in Miami has already filed an intent to seek Pretrial Confinement.
He is clearly playing upon anti-colonial sympathies in the BVI in his letter. Now is the time to unite and rally against Britain, which I intend to lead. Please do not allow this minor British-led Entrapment to divert our eyes and mind from the true issue at heart, right and determination to set out own destiny as a people. Fahie is appealing to thoughts of independence of the British Virgin Islands to confuse his constituents, and to categorise his arrest as a political action, not a criminal act. Patriotism is, we know well, the last refuge of a scoundrel, and he is playing the patriotism card for all its worth. Fahue is not the BVI version of Nelson Mandela, by reputation, to be sure. Look at the court documents.
In closing, he again promises that he will be released. You shall hear from me live Wednesday after my release. Expect to be briefed on our way forward. Thank you for trusting in my leadership, and continue to ask the Lord to bless our country. He's not being realistic about bail, and invoking God's name is nothing more than blasphemy.
We shall update our readers on the results of this week's proceedings upon their conclusion.
