STILL NO RULING FROM ELEVENTH CIRCUIT ON US APPEAL IN WAKED MONEY LAUNDERING ORGANIZATION FORFEITURE



For those who have been following the Miami criminal case against Nidal Ahmed Waked Hatum, the Colombian kingpin leading Panama's Waked Money Laundering Organization, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, which is handling the Government's appeal of the trial judge's denial of a forfeiture judgment against Waked, the ruling is still pending.

Oral Argument was held back on February 11, 2020; a number of analysts have opined that the Government did not have the evidence necessary to prove all the counts filed against Waked. The Court apparently agreed, when it denied the Government a $10m forfeiture judgment, notwithstanding his conviction on relatively minor charges.
