PONZI SCHEMER ALLEN STANFORD SEEKS REVIEW FROM US SUPREME COURT

The offshore banker/Ponzi schemer R Allen Stanford, whose conviction and virtual life sentence was affirmed by the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, has, through counsel, filed a Petition for a Writ of Certiorari, in the United States Supreme Court. It is up to the high court to decide whether to accept the case, as Stanford exhausted his appeals as a matter of right, when the 5th Circuit ruled against him.

In an indication of how poor his chances of success are, the US Department of Justice served notice that it has waived its right to respond to the Petition. Of course, if the Court accepts the case, the Government will most certainly appear.

The Certiorari Petitions, of two senior Stanford Bank executives, who received 20-year sentences for their involvement in the Ponzi scheme, were denied earlier this year. The case is scheduled to be distributed, in conference, to the Justices, on September 26, 2016. Most court observers do not expect the Court to take jurisdiction.
